Afternoon Adventures

At MyGen, we’ll have some time in the afternoon to explore some different ways that we can live out our faith.

There are two main paths for you to choose from: Service Stream, or Breakout Sessions.

Check out the descriptions below for a better idea of what you can expect from both streams!

Service Stream

The Service Stream will find you going into the community to serve others by completing a variety of different service projects. You will be placed into a group and assigned a specific project that your group will complete. Due to the complicated nature of scheduling all these different service projects, participants will not be able to choose which specific project they wish to be a part of. Instead, we ask that you move in faith and trust that you will end up where you are most needed.

Some examples would include:

  • Having tea with seniors

  • Making and/or distributing food

  • Gathering food for food bank

  • Bowling with Special Olympic Athletes

  • Visiting nursing homes

Christ has no body but yours. No hands, no feet on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes through which He looks compassion on this world. Yours are the feet with which He walks to do good. Yours are the hands through which He blesses all the world. Your are the hands, yours are the feet, yours are the eyes, you are His body. Christ has no body now on earth but yours.

- Teresa of Avila

Breakout Sessions

If you’re looking to learn a little bit more about your faith, or maybe hang out with a friar for the afternoon, you’ve come to the right place!

There’s five different breakout sessions for you to choose from, so choose wisely!

1. Faith - Fun - Food and Francis with the Friars!

Spend the afternoon with four Franciscan Friars. This will be a fun, high energy session in which you'll learn a little bit more about Saint Francis, a little bit more about the order of Franciscans, and hear a little bit of the vocation story of Br. Michael Perras and his fellow Franciscan brothers.

2. Do I have a story?

You do! Come hang out with Colm Leyne for the afternoon and he will help you identify your story, talk about how you might go about sharing it, and why it's so important to do so.

3. Writing Pysanky (Ukrainian Easter Eggs)

Did you know that those beautiful Ukrainian Easter eggs are not only a work of art, but they also have a unique story to tell? Spend some time learning about the history of pysanky, while also making your own!

4. Lenten Art

Learn a little bit about the importance of art in the history of our Church, and how it can be a powerful tool to draw us even deeper in prayer. There will even be an opportunity for you to make some of your own Sacred Art!

5. Praying with Music

Saint Augustine says that "when we sing, we pray twice." If you love music, join this session to learn how you can better use music to deepen your prayer life and share the story of God's love with others.
